Tips for Viewing in Your Browser

If the file is a PDF (Portable Document Format) it will display in your Internet browser.

Be aware that you should only be opening files or downloading them from sites that you trust, that you know are safe. If you have a Windows PC viruses can be passed on via these files. To date there are no known viruses for MAc/Apple computers so you will be OK anyway.

The PDF will open and you can view it, and then choose to save as and place it where you wish. While the PDF is opening (it may take a while for larger files, especially if you are on dial-up) your browser will be indicating to you that it is still opening the file.

Here is an example of an opened document:

If your file looks like one of these:

it has been zipped or archived to enable it the files within to download quicker. You need to unpack it (yes like a suitcase) so you can use the files within it.

To Unpack/ Unzip

Simply double-click on the zipped file and follow any instructions. Usually the unzipped file will be found in the same folder or on the desktop.

Note: Most computers come with software to unzip/ unarchive but at times you may want to get updates or you may need another unzipping program.

Some common software for this process are:
Go to www.winzip.com to download an evaluation version for unzipping (windows)
